What Happened in the Big Apple

6/15/12: Reds take the first game of this three game series against the Mets with a final score of 7-3. Bronson Arroyo received his first winning decision since May 17th. He pitched 6 innings only allowing 3 runs to score on 4 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 5. Arroyo's career record against the Mets is now 8-2 with an ERA of just 2.90.

Dillon Gee also went 6 innings, allowed 4 runs (only 3 earned runs) on 5 hits and struck out 4.

Game Summary:
Jay Bruce leads off the 2nd inning with a fly ball to left field and turns out to be an inside-the-park home run. Mets' left fielder Jason Bay left the game after hitting his head on the left field wall. Scott Hairston replaces Bay in left. Ryan Ludwick hits his 9th double of the season, bringing in Todd Frazier. Reds lead 2-0.

Top of the 3rd, Brandon Phillips hits his 9th home run of the season, extending the lead to 4-0.

Bottom of the 6th, Kirk Nieuwenhuis homers off of Bronson Arroyo scoring the only Mets run in the game. Score now 4-1.

Top of the 7th, Wilson Valdez doubles to left scoring Bronson Arroyo and Zack Cozart. 6-1
Bottom of the 7th, Scott Hairston hits a 2 run home run. 6-3

Top of the 9th, Wilson Valdez singles on a fly ball to center, and Willie Harris score. 7-3.
Aroldis Chapman ended the game with a four-seam fastball hitting 99 MPH.



Conclusion:
The Reds are now 9 games over .500 which is the first time this season, and have a 4 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. Check out the latest poll for our question of the night!
