"Ninety feet between the bases is the nearest thing to perfection that man has yet achieved." Red Smith (1905 - 1982)
Tonight is the 2nd game of this 3-game series against the Mets. The Reds took an early lead last night and the game was history. Reds extend their winning streak to 4 games, and ended the Mets' 3-game winning streak.
Homer Baily (4-4, 4.35 ERA) is coming off a heart-breaking loss against the Detroit Tigers. Bailey left Sunday's game pitching 6 2/3 innings and with a 3-run lead over the Tigers. The Reds bullpen fell apart and gave up a victory. Bailey has had six starts on the road this season with just a 3-2 record and a 3.49 ERA.
Jon Niese (4-2, 3.69 ERA) is coming off a brutal month of May with an ERA of 6.07. Niese is undefeated in his last 5 starts.
A Third Base Dilemma:
Todd Frazier continues to impress the Reds organization as his starts at third base while Scott Rolen was on the disabled list. Frazier is hitting .276 with an on base percentage of .338 and a slugging percentage of .577. In the month of June, Frazier has had 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, and is batting .293. Everyday that he plays, he just impresses the fans more.
If Rolen comes back and replaces Frazier in third, how do we keep Frazier's hot bat in the line up? Send in your comments on twitter at @blogmaggie or comment below!
(I say keep Todd at third, I mean, look how great he is!)
TONIGHT'S REDS LINE UP:
Cozart (6)
Valdez (8)
Votto (3)
Phillips (4)*
Bruce (9)
Frazier (5)
Ludwick (7)
Mesoraco (2)
Bailey (1)
*Phillips went 1-for-5 in last nights game including a home run. That makes it a 18-game hitting streak against the NY Mets.
