Day 65: Bring Your Brooms

"Baseball is a game were a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball." Jim Murray (Los Angeles Times 1962)

Today's afternoon game is the final game in this 3-game series. The Reds are going for their second sweep in a row. The Mets, however, are looking to end the Reds 5-game winning streak, and their 2-game losing streak.

The Reds ace Johnny Cueto (7-3, 2.46 ERA) is coming off his sixth career complete game when the Reds clubhouse was down with a flu-like virus.

Chris Young (1-0, 3.38 ERA) is making his third start Sunday. He is pitching for the first time without the benefit of extra rest since coming back from his right shoulder surgery.

Wilson Valdez Getting Used to Center:
Wilson Valdez made his first starts in center on Friday and Saturday against the Mets. Including the two starts with the Reds in center, Valdez has only make 4 career appearances in center field.
Along with great defense in center, Valdez has gone 3-for-9 in these two games with 3RBIs and one run scored. Valdez is hitting in the No. 2 spot in the line up.

  1. Valdez is good at center.. But what about Heisey? Or wait.. What about Rolen coming back up and Frazier filling in at center? What is the right combination do you think?

  2. Chris Heisey is coming off a left groin strain. We hope he returns to the line up and to center field soon!
The Reds currently have Wilson Valdez and Willie Harris as options for center. Frazier could switch with Ryan Ludwick from time to time and play left field if Rolen is healthy and hitting when he returns on Monday.
